Dr. Anar Patel, an emergency doctor at Albany Medical Center, slowly works a laryngoscope through the throat of a mannequin in order to open the air passage and place an endotracheal tube into the lungs so that a bag-mask ventilator can be applied to assist the patient’s breathing while New York Army National Guard State Surgeon Col. James Coleman, a Saratoga Springs, N.Y. resident, looks on during training on Aug. 5, 2014, at Camp Smith Training Site in Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. Patel and another resident doctor were on hand at Camp Smith during MEDCOM's annual training. The doctors were invited to come to Camp Smith on Aug. 5 to become familiar with the Army methods and procedures of operating a field aid station and to give help train members of the New York Army National Guard Medical Command.
