A U.S. Marine stops to greet children during a patrol through the bazaar of Delaram, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Jan. 24. Afghan national policemen patrolled Delaram with the Marines of 1st Platoon, Company K, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment (Reinforced), the ground combat element of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Afghanistan, in search of illegal activity and contraband. U.S. Marines train and mentor the Afghan national police in order to provide the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan with a professional police force able to provide security for its people.
