General John Kelly, commander of U.S. Southern Command, signs the Virginia Military Institute flag belonging to two U.S. Naval officers during an evening reception in Cartagena, Colombia, aboard the future amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), July 17, 2014. The reception was held in the hangar bay of the ship which has been expanded for the America-class from previous amphibious assault ships in order to facilitate maintenance on more aircraft simultaneously. Cartagena was the ship's first stop during its transit around South America dubbed "America Visits the Americas," which aims at strengthening existing partnerships throughout the region.
