Civilians from across the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command participated in a Civilian Professional Development class, July 24. The class covered Individual Development Plans, or IDPs, that align employee training and development efforts with the mission, goals, and objectives of the unit. It helps both the employee and their supervisors better understand professional goals, strengths, and development needs - which can result in more realistic staff and development training. According to Bruce Cox, a CPD instructor, IDPs should be done annually. “Supervisors and employees work together to complete the employee's development plan. However, employees are ultimately responsible for taking the initiative for their professional development,” Cox said. Pete Michael, 19th ESC Civilian Personnel Officer, added the training is meant to create a culture that encourages, supports and invests in the development of Team 19’s civilian workforce. “CPD is part of Brig. Gen. Farmen's vision of putting the "P" into People. He recognizes that his civilian workforce is an integral part of Team 19 and is equally entitled to outstanding mentorship to assist in their career goals,” Michael said.
