The Marines of 3rd Civil Affairs Group, Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Afghanistan, facilitated the gravel project for the city in an effort to improve conditions an stimulate the local Afghan economy. The civil affairs team works closely with the people of southern Afghanistan to foster working relationships that help to build a stronger economy and a more capable government. By planning and executing joint operations with the Afghan national security forces, SPMAGTF-A strengthens the ability of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to protect and provide for its people.
  • Afghans dig a trench for a new drainage system to control the flow of runoff in Golestan, Farah province, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, March 13. Marines with 3rd Civil Affairs Group facilitated the new drainage system project in order to make improvements to the community that has seen notable security increases in the past. The civil affairs team has worked closely with the Marines of second platoon, Company K, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment (Reinforced), the ground combat element of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Afghanistan, to ensure the success of such projects. Second platoon is in Golestan to conduct counterinsurgency operations, and train and mentor the Afghan national police.
