As part of a tour by the U.S. Forces-Afghanistan deputy commanding general for support, Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Colt presented awards to Soldiers stationed at Camp Phoenix. Awards presented were the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. “This is clearly my favorite task force in this CJOA [Combined Joint Operations Area],” said Colt. “I don't see anybody work harder. I don't see anybody that works better together. It's one team, one fight here doing a lot of different and essential tasks or you wouldn't be here. This is a precursor to what is coming to the accolades that this task force has learned based on great leadership and great teamwork that happens every single day.” For wounds received in action on April 22, 2014, Staff Sgt. John Massey, 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, was awarded the Purple Heart.
