Jones joined the Marine Corps in December 2002 and became a drill instructor in July 2012. “Being a drill instructor is something I’ve always wanted to do – to follow in the footsteps of my drill instructors and to better the Marine Corps,” said Jones, a native of Kinston, N.C. About 600 Marine Corps drill instructors shape the approximately 20,000 recruits who come to Parris Island annually into basic United States Marines.
