Field Artillery Battalion slips into history

Now cased, the colors of 1st Battalion, 21st Field Artillery Regiment, 41st Field Artillery Brigade, stand next to the American flag and the colors of the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas, June 12. During the inactivation ceremony, the battalion cased its colors until once again called on by the nation. The 1-21st FAR first stood up June 1, 1917 at Camp Wilson, Texas. During its 97-year history, the battalion was awarded nine citations or commendations and has seen combat in World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
