Petty Officer 3rd Class Gwendolyn Sorensen from Coast Guard Cutter Rush explains the challenges of navigating a ship to a group of students visiting Base Honolulu as part of the National Summer Transportation Institute June 3, 2014. Sixteen students from local high schools participated in the first NSTI program aimed at educating students about a variety of career options in the transportation industry. Coast Guard members discussed their roles and responsibilities and also relayed personal accounts of life underway aboard a Coast Guard cutter.
