Gen. Qais, commander of the 53rd Iraqi Army Brigade, shakes the hand of a Sons of Iraq member during a historic day, Nov. 10, 2008, in Patrol Base South, northwest of Baghdad. The payday operation was a historic one as the government of Iraq took over funding from coalition forces. Each SOI member received 354,000 Iraqi Dinar, the equivalent to $350 American, for their month's work.
