Iraqi army officers speak with Capt. Michael Mayne, commanding officer of Bravo Company, Task Force 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 1, Karmah, Iraq, Oct. 7, 2008. Marines of Bravo Co. were conducting a mission to collect retinal and photographic identification of local Iraqi adult male residents in conjunction with the Iraqi army in their area of operation. Effectively identifying Iraqi's in Karmah is pivotal to limit insurgency movement by eliminating their concealment, and pursuing any remaining threats in the "Western gate to Anbar." Karmah is the last likely area for insurgents to attempt to regain because of its location, neighboring cities, and porous borders.
