Lt. Col. Lorrin Penny, Commander 487th Field Artillery, presents Sgt. Scobie’s son Duke with a U.S. Flag during a memorial service for Sgt. Drew Scobie. Scobie was one of three Americans killed in an aircraft accident in eastern Afghanistan on Jan. 10, 2014. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion/487th Field Artillery in Wahiawa. Sgt. Scobie was a Fire Direction Operator for the artillery battalion. He had volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan with Det. 55, which is currently providing reconnaissance and surveillance for International Security Assistance Forces in Afghanistan. Det. 55 was mobilized on Oct. 8, 2013 and deployed to Afghanistan later that month.
