Rct. Darrell Boddie Jr., Platoon 1020, Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, prepares to push himself off the side of the pool during his basic water survival assessment Feb. 3, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. Boddie, a 19-year-old native of Memphis, Tenn., had to swim 25 meters across the pool to pass this portion of the qualification. Recruits who fail receive one-on-one guidance from Marine swim instructors, who help them to improve techniques and ensure they remain safe in the water. Charlie Company is scheduled to graduate April 4, 2014. (Photo by Cpl. Octavia Davis)
