Soldiers from the Little Rock, Ark.-based 489th Engineer Battalion, attached to the Fort Bragg, N.C.-based 82nd Sustainment Brigade-U.S. Central Command Materiel Recovery Element, go into a huddle to work on a game-winning strategy during a volleyball championship Jan. 30 at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan. The 489th’s engineers beat troops with the Eufaula, Ala.-based 1103rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, also attached to the 82nd SB-CMRE, in a final game by a score of 21 to 19 to attain bragging rights and honors as the best volleyball team in the 82nd SB-CMRE. The volleyball games were arranged by the brigade’s master resiliency trainer as an event to build unit morale and esprit de corps between the brigade and its attached, subordinate units.
