Rear Adm. Katherine L. Gregory, commander of Naval Facilities Engineering Command and the chief of Navy's Civil Engineering Corps (CEC) awards a coin to Donnie Adkins, a supervisor for Biosurveillance Ecosystem (BSVE) operations and maintenance at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling's (JBAB) Public Works Department. Adkins was recognized for his response to the Washington Navy Yard (WNY) shooting incident where he took charge of coordinating transportation assets needed to deliver food and supplies to evacuate personnel from teh WNY to the family relocation area at Nationals Park. In addition, he coordinated the transportation between JBAB and WNY for emergency personnel for the first 24 hours following the tragedy and led regional transportation support to the memorial ceremony. He has also been doing an excellent job according to supervisors as the acting branch chief since late October when the sitting branch chief was called to handle a family emergency.
