The C-17 is assigned to the 816th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron which is responsible for providing strategic airlift and combat operations to the U.S. Air Forces Central Command’s area of responsibility. The airmen assigned to the 816th EAS, who are deployed from Joint Base Charleston, S.C., have flown more than130 sorties, moved more than 4 million pounds of cargo and more than 1,700 passengers in the past two weeks alone.
