Guardsmen march in Christmas Eve hike to honor deployed soldiers

New York Army National Guard soldiers, Spcs. James Zito, left, of South Glens Falls, N.Y., Nicolas Cassey from Gansevoort, N.Y. and Russell Smith of Queensbury, N.Y., assist event organizer and Army National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Art Coon, retired, center, as they lead the participants of the 10th annual Christmas Eve Road March here, Dec. 24. Participants from the New York Army and Air National Guard, veterans organizations, family members and community supporters turned out for the 3.6-mile march through town to support deployed service members around the world. More than 1,000 participants turned out for the 2013 event, saluting the original unit members of the 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry who were deployed to Iraq in 2004 for the original road march.
