Mass Communications Specialist First Class Laurie Wood, of Virginia Beach Va. and Mass Communications Specialist Second Class Dominique Shelton, of Hampton Va., share a laugh during a break in a game of sled hockey at the Iceland Family Skating Center in Virginia Beach. Wood, who served as a Deputy Sheriff until May 2013 lost the use of her legs over a year ago when she fell 25 feet from a building while instructing new recruits in Sheriff's Office Academy training. Wood, who has always been physically active, said, "When I got hurt, at first I felt like giving up, but I refused to do that and decided to find new ways to challenge myself physically. I discovered sled hockey about a year ago and I love it." Wood plays for the Virginia Beach Challenge Team at the Iceland Family Skating Center in Virginia Beach.
