3/6 Marines, sailors lend a helping hand

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Michael A. Jahr, a religious program specialist with 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, from Memphis, Mich., sorts food during a community relations project with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, in Greenville, N.C., December 17, 2013. “It was turned into a competition of who can break the boxes down and get the boxes sorted the fastest,” said Navy Lt. Reginald E. Jones, the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment chaplain, and native of DeSoto, Texas. “We were packing so fast that they wanted us to go to lunch so they can catch up. We probably did a week’s worth of work in only a few hours.”

  • Garland, Texas, native Sgt. Joshua Pearce, a squad leader with 3rd Platoon, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, checks his squad’s location with a map during a patrol. “I always take the senior (AUP patrolman) and keep him right with me so we can (both) interact with the people,” said Pearce. “(We) ask them if they’ve seen any (insurgents) recently, if they’ve been threatened so we can get a broader spectrum (of their situation). We can track who’s been threatened so we can plan for future operations. Most of the stuff’s just been like census, feeling everybody out and trying to see if there’s anything we can do.”
