Afghan National Army takes control of Forward Operating Base Shir Ghazay

Marines of 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, aligned their trucks before departing from Forward Operating Base Shir Ghazay, Nov. 17. The base was being transferred to the ANA and the Marines were retrograding equipment back to Camp Leatherneck. The base was established to provide security for Route Red. Route Red has been the primary transportation route for coalition forces and Afghan National Security Forces supporting FOBs throughout Helmand province. The FOB overlooks the re-supply route and maintains security in the immediate area.
