Corporal Jeffrey T. Garrard, recorder with Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, and a native of Townsend, Mont., receives and transcribes orders for a fire mission in support of Exercise Steel Knight 2014 at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Dec. 13, 2013. Recorders' orders must be precise to direct accurate artillery fire on the battlefield. Steel Knight is a large-scale, combined arms, live fire exercise integrating the ground combat element from 1st Marine Division with aviation and logistical support from 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and 1st Marine Logistics Group.
