U.S. Army Pfc. Hugo Alvarado, demonstrates the proper technique for hanging a mortar round down the tube during a live-fire range mortar near Forward Operating Base Gamberi, Nov. 19, 2013. Alvarado, of Newark, N.J., serves as a gunner with Company B, 2nd Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Task Force Patriot. Alvarado showed how the mortar round must but cupped with both hands before allowing it to fall into the tube. With this training, Alvarado is helping create a self-sustainable Afghan army. Every student participating in this exercise is an instructor who will teach mortar skills to soldiers in his organic unit. (U.S. Army Photo by Sgt. 1st Class E. L. Craig, Task Force Patriot PAO)
