455 EMSG moves to hardened facility

  • Chief Master Sgt. Steve Bohannon, command chief master sergeant of the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing, presents the “Warrior of the Week” award to Staff Sgt. Omar Arellano, 455th Expeditionary Security Forces Group noncommissioned officer in charge of J5 physical security, on Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, Aug. 28. Arellano, a native of Fargo, N.D., stationed at Hector Air National Guard Base, N.D., expertly coordinated an outside-the-wire mission where he installed armored guard facilities worth more than $150,000 at key Afghanistan National Police checkpoints. This action strengthened the airfield’s outer security ring and prevented threats from reaching the installation. Additionally, he led 82 joint service personnel in multiple tasks to harden Bagram Air Field’s perimeter.
  • On the steps of the old Russian air traffic control tower, known as the 'Crow's Nest' in Camp Cunningham in Bagram Air Field, secretary of the Air Force Michael Donley thanked members of the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing for their efforts in taking the fight to the enemies of Afghanistan, Aug. 29. Donley listed many missions Airmen carry out on a daily basis in support of the joint fight and thanked the Airmen for all their hard work. The Russian air traffic control tower was built in 1976 during the Soviet Union's occupation of the region. Currently more than 5,000 Airmen are deployed to Bagram supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and NATO International Security Assistance Forces.
