This training is conducted with live rounds on targets in the training building. This event is the start of collective training as squads and platoons.
  • Soldiers from Company A, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, conduct a mission brief before their squad live-fire exercise at the House Creek shoot house on Sept. 22. This event kicked off the unit's collective training after completing individual skills training. This training is done to maintain unit cohesion and ability to operate in an urban environment in combat. "We are spending lots of time to run through this," said 1st Lt. Devin Gulliams, the range officer-in-charge from Plano, Texas, about observing classes and step-by-step instructions of room clearing.

Kevin Harris, platoon sergeant of 3rd Platoon, Troop A, 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, from Fort Lewis, Wash., evaluates three Iraqi army soldiers during a mission-oriented urban terrain exercise. Arrow Troop trained with the Iraqi army in house clearing procedures, with the goal of IA troops fighting alongside coalition forces on upcoming missions.
  • Soldiers from Company D "Diablo," 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, clear and secure the house of a possible insurgent during Military Operations on Urban Terrain training Sept. 6. "Diablo" took part in the training to hone their tactical skills before the upcoming deployment. The mission is just one of the events that the unit is participating in as part of Rampage field exercise. Rampage is the Ironhorse Brigade's pre-combat readiness training.
