Army National Guardsman, Staff Sgt. Edgar T. Bowers (right), gets a congratulatory handshake from John Falkenbury (left), president of the USO of North Carolina after receiving the USO of N.C.'s National Guardsman of the Year Salute to Freedom Award.The USO of North Carolina hosted their ninth annual Salute to Freedom Gala at the Raleigh Convention Center in Raleigh, N.C., Oct. 19. The event, attended by hundreds, awarded six North Carolina military members from all of the branches for their selfless acts of services to their fellow warriors and the citizens of our nation. Bowers, a member of the 1-130th Aviation Battalion earned the award for his support of N.C. Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team operations in a rescue earlier this year.
