'Wagonmasters' participate in mass re-enlistment

Spc. Nathan A. Barbee, a native of Burlington, N.C., assigned to the 15th Sustainment Brigade, kicked off the new fiscal year, with soldiers from three other units, by participating in a mass re-enlistment ceremony held at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan Oct. 11. The 15th Sustainment Brigade is responsible for providing sustainment support to U.S. Forces and select Coalition Forces throughout Regional Commands South, West, and Southwest in addition to assisting with synchronizing and executing the movement of retrograde equipment. The three other units who also took part in the mass reenlistment included the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Regiment and the Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion of the 4th Infantry Division.

  • Staff Sgt. Michael Chastain, of St. Cloud, Minn., a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 541st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 96th Sustainment Brigade, spends countless hours on the phone as he makes calls all over the brigade and even back to the United States in his effort to help Soldiers get the things they want when re-enlisting. Chastain is the Career Counselor for the 541st CSSB, and he also takes care of all the other active duty Soldiers in the brigade. Since Oct. 1, Chastain has overseen and assisted with 23 re-enlistments, getting the Soldiers over $95,000 in re-enlistment bonuses.
