Colonel Douglas Gabram (left), commander of the 1st Air Cavalry "Warrior" Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, who hails from Cleveland, goes over a quick refresher course on the AH-64D Apache attack helicopter with Spokane, Wash., native Col. Gary Volesky (right), commander of the 3rd "Grey Wolf" Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cav. Div., during an air/ground integration training event, June 18 at Fort Hood, Texas. Volesky, a ground commander who normally travels by M2A3 Bradley, gets to fly in the front seat of Gabram's Apache with the help of Copperas Cove, Texas, native Chief Warrant Officer 5 Michael Reese, the brigade standardization instructor pilot for 1st ACB. Gabram did this to give ground commanders a better understanding of what pilots see and go through in combat. In turn, Volesky did the same for Gabram by putting him in the seat of a Bradley.
