A recent Afghan Local Police graduate receives his course completing certificate during an ALP graduation ceremony held at the National Directorate of Security compound adjacent to Forward Operating Base Rushmore, Afghanistan, Aug. 28, 2013. The graduating class of approximately 70 ALP is the first to attend the all Afghan ran local police training academy in Paktika province. The ALP is an effective, cost efficient, resilient, and accountable component of GIRoA security forces as they provide security to the local populace. The relevance of the ALP is demonstrated by its recognition as an integral part of the Afghan National Security Force structure, by its popularity with local leaders and people, and by the danger it poses to the insurgency.
