While the Navy offers many benefits for Sailors beyond a military career, including education opportunities, medical and dental care and access to both the NEX and Commissary, there’s one that many service members may not be well informed about or don’t often take advantage of, and that is Space-A travel.
South of Tokyo and lying within the shadow of Mount Fuji is an area of Kanagawa that is an anomaly compared to the rest of the region, Enoshima. Soaked in sunlight, with salt from the ocean in the air, palm trees lining the streets and art deco architecture, visitors might mistake it for South Beach in Miami or Southern California instead of Japan.
Among the urban jungle that is metropolitan Tokyo, lies a part of the megalopolis, which instead of being dominated by concrete and glass, is populated with a sea of trees and grass. Yoyogi is an area surrounded by the glitz and glamour of 21st century Tokyo but is set aside to honor not only the past of Japan but to promote rest and relaxation for all visitors and guests of the eastern capital.
