NC Guard: Leaders in motorcycle safety
NC Guard: Leaders in motorcycle safetyChief Warrant Officer 3 Thomas Anspach, North Carolina National Guard’s assistant state training officer, is the first N.C. Guardsman to graduate from the N.C. Highway Patrol’s Bike Safe assessor’s course on July 18, 2014, in Raleigh. Anspach, an active duty Guardsman of 23 years, is also the lead motorcycle instructor for the state.


Arizona Guard members earn coveted Expert Infantry Badge
The six left standingIn the high altitude of northern Arizona, five Guard members from 1st Battalion, 158th Infantry Regiment, and one from Louisiana earned the prestigious Expert Infantry Badge out of 135 who attempted the grueling test here this month.


Vermont Civil Engineers Receive Deneke Award
Deneke AwardThe Vermont Air National Guard (VTANG) has a reputation of a high standard of excellence and received recognition for that effort in the form of the Colonel William L. Deneke Outstanding Civil Engineering Award. This marks the third time the VTANG Civil Engineering (CE) squadron has received this award. It is given each year to the Air National Guard unit that shows the most outstanding accomplishments and achievements.

New York Naval Militia boat crews hone skills on Hudson RiverTwo New York Naval Militia boat crews refined their watercraft handling skills while also executing emergency response drills during a day of training on the Hudson River at Schodack Island State Park here on Friday, July 25. The exercise, in which eight Naval Militia Sailors on patrol boats 220 and 221 executed a missing person drill, investigated a bomb threat, and set up a boat-traffic exclusion zone also provided training for a three-person command party on shore manning the Naval Militia’s mobile command trailer.

Drawing bloodThe 158th Medical Group has become the first Air Guard base to process both Preventative Health Assessments (PHA) and Occupational Health Physical Examinations (OHE) in one large push, improving the medical experience for both the medical staff and patients, while creating a cost-saving and efficient format for other units to emulate.
