[6] RED HORSE Airmen give Iraqis reason for hope
Six months ago, the town of Hawr Rajab was a mere shell of its former self. Local shops were closed, their windows boarded up. The streets were abandoned. Homes were badly damaged. The town was once an al Qaida in Iraq stronghold where violence and intimidation forced residents to flee their homes. But today Hawr Rajab is a different place. (09/5/08)

Coalition forces released 49 juvenile detainees to their families on, Aug. 19, 2008, bringing the number of of all detainees released in 2008 to just above 11,000.

[6] Iraqi Air Force graduates largest basic training class to date
The Iraqi air force training school graduated its third and largest basic military training class, August 11, 2008. Nine Iraqi officers and ten warrant officers led 283 of their fellow countrymen through a rigorous physical and academic regimen that transformed them from ordinary citizens to professional Airmen.

Twenty years ago, it was the center of military excellence for the Iraqi combat machine, the former home of “Chemical Ali”. Today the new Iraqi military has charge of the base and is assisted by dozens of advisors supplied by the U.S. Army. An unsung handful of those advisors, are Combat Airmen from the U.S. Air Force assisting the Iraqis with everything from water and fuel distribution to setting up a formidable base defense system.

[3] Detainees return home accompanied by their families
The families of 21 detainees entered Victory Base Complex to visit their family member today –and bring him home. The detainees had been determined to no longer be security threats and were released after a brief ceremony led by Iraqi officials.
