24th MEU: On the shoulders of giants
24th MEU's LAR Detachment Shoots for Mission ReadinessThe 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit began a fresh by embarking on its 2015 deployment Dec. 16. The MEU’s crisis response mission is scheduled to last around seven months and remains similar to those of the last several decades—to provide the President with a forward-deployed, flexible, sea-based force tasked and ready to respond to wherever it may be called. As the MEU and Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group steam east across the Atlantic, it’s appropriate for current MEU Marines and Sailors to look back at those who have gone before and think about the future.

Cannoneer from Guam partakes in Exercise Steel Knight 15Each day as the sun broke the horizon during Exercise Steel Knight 15 aboard Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California, artillery fire changed the ambiance of the desert. Marines with 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment conducted organic fire support for maneuvering units throughout the exercise.
