Air Force Space Command personnel are supporting local authorities, as wildfires burn along Colorado's Front Range. Greg Holmes has more from Schriever AFB in Colorado Springs.

STORY:
As of Thursday afternoon, five firefighting vehicles and 28 firefighting personnel from Buckley, Peterson, and Schriever Air Force Bases, and from Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, are providing support to the Black Forest Fires.

Current assets deployed from Buckley include a 5,000 gallon water truck with a two-person crew; Cheyenne Mountain AFS has a nine-person hand crew and a structural fire engine with one-person crew on hand; Peterson AFB is contributing to the fight with a six-man crew and a 5,000 gallon water truck.

The eleven Fire and Emergency Service members from Cheyenne Mountain and Buckley who joined the regional firefighting efforts are "Red Card" certified to fight wild land fires.

Schriever Air Force Base is providing a fire engine with a four-person crew deployed to the heart of fire-fighting efforts.

El Paso County officials report that this is the most destructive fire in Colorado history.

From Schriever AFB in Colorado Springs, I’m Greg Holmes.
