KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan authorities and ISAF forces inaugurated two projects in western Afghanistan recently.
In Herat Saturday, local officials and the Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team inaugurated a conference hall. The province's newest structure covers approximately 750 square meters. The structure has a hall for general services on the ground floor and a large conference room upstairs. The Italian Ministry of Defence provided more than €165,000 for the project.
"The close cooperation between government institutions in the province and the PRT have always worked for the good of the people," said Dr. Ahmad Yusof Nurestani, Herat's governor.
In the Kineske District of Farah province Thursday, local council leadership and engineers in addition to civil affairs members from the U.S. PRT visited a canal cleaning project in an effort to improve agricultural development in the area.
The canal project is one of 15 to 20 canal projects currently being completed by Afghans in the province as a push for agricultural stability. The project will provide clean water to irrigate crops, such as wheat, for the residents of Kineske. Afghan citizens provide the labor and security for the projects, and the U.S. PRT provides the funding.
Both projects involved local workers in solid partnership with PRTs.
