KABUL, Afghanistan — The Herat Department of Health along with the Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team opened a new hospital in the Gazar Gah District yesterday.
The medical center is composed of a large main entry area which also serves as a waiting room, a wing for women and children, and another for men, which also includes general services.
The hospital, valued at €95,000, was completed by local contractors with funds made available by the Italian Ministry of Defense.
The chief of the Herat Department of Health, the chief of the Women's Affairs Department, the Regional Command West commander, the Italian PRT commander, and several officials from the Kabul central government attended the ceremony.
The Italian PRT has invested approximately €3 million in the health sector of Herat province. This year they will invest another €365,000 for the construction of two new hospitals.
