DIYALA, Iraq — Throughout their tour, the 296th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, has conducted a wide variety of classes for Iraqi army soldiers. These courses are aimed at further educating and training these soldiers in their career fields.
Iraqi army soldiers who participated in three different courses on Forward Operating Base Warhorse, Iraq, graduated in a combined ceremony, Feb. 25.
The classes that graduated were the Intelligence Production and Analysis Course, the Iraqi Partnership Logistic Course and the Iraqi Mechanic Basic Course.
The IPAC course is aimed at IA intelligence specialists and officers. These Soldiers learn how U.S. forces gather and analyze information in a class taught by the 209th Military Intelligence Company, 296th BSB.
"This was a great experience," said Cpl. Abas Mansoor Khamis, the distinguished honor graduate from the IPAC course. Khamis is with the Intelligence Company, 5th IA Div., and gathers intelligence while conducting surveillance and reconnaissance missions in the local area.
Assisting with this course was 2nd Lt. Asam Raook Hassien, also with the Intelligence Company. He was a graduate of the first IPAC cycle and returned as a student instructor. He has also helped to conduct intelligence courses for the IA.
"We taught our own class, 15 students graduated from it on our own FOB," said 2nd Lt. Assam.
The IPLC course taught IA supply soldiers how to effectively inventory and issue equipment essential to military operations. This class was instructed by Soldiers of Company A, 296th BSB.
The IMBC course taught IA mechanics how to troubleshoot and fix the High Mobility Multi-Wheeled Vehicles , or Humvee, their army is currently fielding. This class is instructed by Humvee mechanics from Company B, 296th BSB.
Coordinating this ceremony and bringing these three classes together to share this momentous occasion was Capt. Jason Bruno, the partnership commanding officer for 296th BSB.
"This is our second time having a combined graduation," he said. "This is so we can bring all the classes together as one, and bring together the IA."
The combined graduation brought more people to congratulate the graduates than separate graduations have in the past. This is why 296th BSB is making an effort to make combined graduations their new standard.
"We are trying to make this a permanent fixture," said Bruno.
