KABUL, Afghanistan - A week long training course designed to help Afghan border police recognize and exploit IED sites began Monday at Camp Arena, Herat province.
The week-long Exploitation Training Course is being taught by the Italian Counter-Improvised Explosive Device branch.
The group of 10 officers and non-commissioned officers attending the course are learning proper procedures to take in the event of an IED threat or blast. Techniques include evidence collection, surveying the scene, and tracing parts back to types of IEDs, and possibly their makers.
"This important initiative will educate our police so they can act appropriately and effectively against the main insurgent threat perpetrated against regional security forces and ISAF," said Gen. Noorzai Mahlam, Afghan border police regional commander.
