KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan-international security force searched a compound northwest of Kandahar City after intelligence confirmed militant activity in the area and detained suspected militants last night.

Another Afghan-international security force detained a militant and recovered several weapons, including hand grenades, while searching for a Taliban facilitator in a compound north of the village of Tajbeki Kalay in Wardak.

In Qarbagh District Sunday a joint security force conducted a weapons cache recovery on a known weapons storage area and detained several militants and found ammunition, explosives and a weapon.

In another operation in Rashidan District, a joint force captured a Taliban commander and a follower responsible for emplacing IEDs and a number of kidnappings in the Rashidan district. The subsequent search also yielded weapons and ammunition.

No civilians were hurt in any of these operations.

ANSF takes fight to IED facilitators in southern Afghanistan

Over the past six weeks, ANSF and ISAF elements jointly conducted operations against IED facilitators in southern Afghanistan.

These operations resulted in the death and capture of insurgent forces including several insurgent IED specialists.

An Afghan-international security force conducted an operation against Taza Gul, a known Taliban IED facilitator in the Gereshk District last month. Gul procured suicide IED components and employed suicide bombers, and has been linked to suicide attack plans in central Helmand, specifically around the Gereshk area.

A joint force conducted an operation against a group of insurgents in an area of open desert near Wushtan, of Sangin recently.

Three insurgents were killed in this operation, including Hafiz Habibullah, a remote controlled IED expert operating there. Habibullah also provided IEDs to neighboring districts in northern Helmand and Kandahar.

In another operation, an Afghan-international security force conducted an operation on an IED assembly facility in Herat province.

The partnered forces killed several insurgents, including Abdul Ghani, an IED facilitator, and detained other insurgents.

No civilians were hurt, and no buildings suffered any damage as a result of these operations.

An ISAF service member from the United Kingdom died Sunday during a fire fight with insurgents in southern Afghanistan.
