KANDAHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan — The 19th Engineer Battalion has made a noticeable impression on Forward Operating Base Frontenac.
The battalion, whose mission is to construct FOBs and combat outposts, has several companies pushed out to locations throughout southern Afghanistan including the 60th Engineer Company at FOB Frontenac.
"We're helping to improve and expand FOB Frontenac," said 1st Lt. Melanie Zdaniewicz. "At the same time, we're also working with the [5/2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team] to ensure that the FOB is becoming more practical for what Stryker needs to complete their mission."
The battalion has been successful according to Zdaniewicz; completing several high priority missions ahead of schedule.
"At Frontenec we've completed several 50 by 90 structures and are currently working on another structure," said Zdaniewicz.
The 19th Engineer Battalion is deployed throughout southern Afghanistan on a yearlong deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and U.S. Forces — Afghanistan.
