DIYALA, Iraq — U.S. forces from the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, met with leadership of the Iraqi Federal Police in Baqubah, Nov. 13.
The meeting involved Federal Police Brigade Commander Col. Raghib and members of the U.S. Civil Affairs, Engineers and Police Transition Team. During the meeting the group discussed how they could work together to enhance the federal police's ability in the region.
One major step in this progression is developing the infrastructure of the police headquarters building itself.
During the tour, members of the assessment team were able to see shortcomings such as barracks, wells and generators which Raghib felt were insufficient to support his force.
Before funding will be approved the recipients must show that they have tried to receive funding through the Ministry of Interior but were unsuccessful. After this a funding assessment will be created to allow for the improvements to be made to the building.
"Events like this help to build strong partnerships. Not only are we strengthening security in Baqubah and around the province, we are also able to help our Iraqi brothers in their quest for a strong, independent Iraq," said Maj. Scott Greenblatt, 3-2 SBCT civil affairs officer.
