New NATO Training Headquarters to Stand Up and Change of Command at Camp Eggers, Kabul

CAMP EGGERS, Kabul– A ceremony at Camp Eggers is scheduled to mark a significant change to the command structure of Coalition Forces training and mentoring the Afghan National Security Forces in Afghanistan, Nov. 21, 2009.

A new NATO headquarters will be established to oversee higher level training and mentoring for the Afghan National Security Forces. This Command will be known as NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan.

Additionally, the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan will officially combine with the NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan. The two organizations will have synchronized missions under a single, dual hatted commander. The new organization serves as a demonstration of NATO's commitment to the Afghan people.

After required training, Afghan National Security Forces deploy to various regions where they partner with coalition and NATO forces. Now, NATO forces will also add to the training and development of the Afghan forces alongside other coalition partners.

Prior to the activation ceremony, a change of command is scheduled at Camp Eggers between Maj. Gen. Richard P. Formica and Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell, IV.

Media wishing to attend Maj. Gen. Richard P. Formica's press conference at 0800 must be at Camp Eggers' north gate by 0730. Media wishing to attend only the ceremony must be at the north gate by 0830.

All media should RSVP with the CSTC-A Public Affairs Office, Media Relations Division, for additional information relating to the ceremony, no later than 1400, Nov. 20, 2009.

Despite the solitude of her days, Harfa says she enjoys her ANP duties which consist of searching the females who come to the CTC for training.

Boots on Ground: for Afghans, by Afghans

The Afghan national army and police forces continue to train hard and develop, while growing by the numbers each and every day. But, to sustain dedicated soldiers and policemen, one needs to have the necessary equipment and gear to be able to conduct their duties. For one local boot manufacturing company, their goal is to ensure that their defenders of freedom are never without quality footwear while helping to grow the Afghan economy by providing jobs to Afghans in Kabul and throughout the country.
