The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division celebrated the grand opening of the Raider Dining Facility Nov. 12.
The DFAC, outfitted with $3.5 million of state-of-art equipment has seven different food stations, a drive-thru and a grab-and-go section giving the staff the ability to feed more than 1,300 patrons in a 90-minute meal period, said Maj. Mark Himes, district liaison, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The drive-thru is the highlight of the new DFAC, said Sgt. 1st Class James Hall, Raider Brigade DFAC noncommissioned officer.
"At the drive-thru we offer eight different combo meals Soldiers can choose from," he added.
Lt. Col. Greg Applegate, commander, 4th Brigade Support Battalion, Command Sgt. Maj. Kevin Tatem, senior noncommissioned officer, 4th BSB, Himes, and Pvt. 1st Class Ariel Sarey, a food service specialist assigned to Company, 1st Special Troops Battalion, cut the ceremonial ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the Raider DFAC.
Spc. Adonis White, 1st BCT junior chef of the quarter, assigned to 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment and Pvt. Stephanie Miller, junior chef of the division runner-up, assigned to Company G, 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, where recognized for their hard work by each holding an end of the ribbon for the ceremony.
The grab-and-go is very convenient for Soldiers who want to get in and get out in a hurry, said Pvt. 1st Class Ronnie Chagnon, a track vehicle repairer, assigned to Company G, 4th Bn. 42nd FAR. The DFAC has a lot of space and many different meal choices.
The grand opening of the DFAC symbolizes the completion of the 1st BCT complex, Himes said
The complex includes the brigade Headquarters building, the Raider Brigade DFAC, six battalion headquarters buildings, six command operating post and six tactical equipment maintenance facilities.
Due to the significant collaboration and teamwork between the contractors, the USACE, 4th Inf. Div. and Fort Carson the entire 1st BCT complex was completed in three and a half years, Hines explained.
