MANAMA, Bahrain - U.S. Naval Forces Central Command played host to Rear Adm. Arthur Johnson, commander, Naval Safety Center this week.

Johnson and a team of six subject matter experts from the Naval Safety Center travelled to Bahrain to meet with command leadership and conduct a Safety Center Assist Visit from, Nov. 9-12, throughout the region.

"The purpose of our visit to this AOR is multi-faceted in that I want to transmit the Department of the Navy's updated safety posture, set the stage for what safety issues are important as we move forward as an organization, and also to receive input from the fleet on how the NSC can make their mission safer," said Johnson.

The Navy's Safety Commander and his team are conducting site visits within the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility to include Naval Base & Warrior Transition Program in Kuwait, Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, and Naval Support Activity Bahrain including the Aviation Detachment and Mina Salman Pier operations.

They will also be conducting a military family member Safety Brief at the Bahrain Department of Defense Dependent School while in Bahrain. "The Naval Safety Center's number one customers are the members of the fleet - including family members," said Johnson. "We are reaching out to the family members with our safety training and messages because if our Sailors and their families are happy and safe they are more apt to meet their mission."

Capt. Lance Carr, NAVCENT safety officer, commented on the importance of these Navy Safety Center visits and their effect on operations in theater.

"These visits show the importance of and help implement safety-first practices into our daily mission here," said Carr. "We strive to continuously put safety first in all our operations - whether at sea or ashore."
