SOUTHWEST ASIA — Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations October 29, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan:
Kandahar area
Coalition aircraft flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. An imminent threat was identified and confirmed by the friendly forces and coordinates were passed to the aircraft. The aircraft visually confirmed the enemy position and released precision guided munitions on the enemy target with destruction of the position and elimination of the imminent threat.
Coalition aircraft flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. An imminent threat was observed and a show of force was performed and the personnel were seen running. The show of force was successful in eliminating a potential threat.
Khaval
Air Force B-1B Lancer aircraft were providing armed overwatch for an Afghan National Army convoy that reported enemy small arms and rocket-propelled grenade fire. A request for air power assistance was made and the aircraft confirmed the locations of the enemy fire. Multiple precision guided munitions were released on the points of origin for the enemy fire and the enemy fire ceased
F-15E aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces when they started receiving enemy fife from numerous positions. The aircraft responded with numerous precision guided munitions once the points of origin were confirmed. The action was considered a success when the enemy positions were destroyed and the enemy fire stopped.
Asmar
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft provided overwatch for Afghan National Army forces. When the ANA forces reported their compound being hit with enemy fire from numerous positions a request for a show of force was made. The show of force was successful in deterring enemy fire.
There were F-15E aircraft providing armed overwatch for friendly forces when a concentration of enemy troops was observed approaching friendly forces. The aircraft responded with precision guided munitions and the threat to the friendly forces was eliminated.
Konduz
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon aircraft were providing reconnaissance for a friendly forces' convoy and armed overwatch for friendly forces. When the friendly forces reported receiving enemy fire, a show of force was performed and precision guided munitions were released to deter the enemy action. When friendly forces in the vicinity of the convoy reported receiving sporadic enemy fire, a show of force was conducted to stop the enemy action and was also considered successful.
Chahar Bagh
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft were above providing armed overwatch for friendly forces. When possible enemy action was reported, a show of force was conducted, with flares expended, to deter enemy action.
Navy F/A-18C Hornet aircraft in the air over providing armed overwatch for friendly forces. Friendly forces requested a show of force to deter possible enemy activity.
