KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan-international security force detained several suspected militants during the search of a compound in Kandahar province known to be used by a Taliban facilitator operating in the area Monday.
The joint security force targeted the compound in northern Kandahar City after intelligence indicated militant activity. The joint force searched the compound without incident; no shots were fired, and no one was injured.
In a separate operation, an Afghan-international security force detained several suspected militants in Helmand province after searching a compound known to be used by a Taliban facilitator in charge of coordinating attacks and supplying IEDs to other militants in the region today.
The joint security force targeted the compound near the village of Koshtay in Garmsir district after intelligence indicated militant activity. The joint force searched the compound without incident; no shots were fired, and no one was injured.
The Taliban's indiscriminate use of violence through IEDs in public areas and the exploitation of innocent civilians for protection are documented by the press. Afghan and international security forces continue to partner their personnel and skills to disrupt Taliban attacks, prevent exploitation of Afghan civilians and encourage reintegration of former insurgents peacefully into their communities.
