    Militants Killed, Detained

    Afghan and international security forces killed and detained multiple suspected militants in search operations to interdict Taliban activity in Zabul and Wardak provinces today.

    A joint security force killed enemy militants while conducting a search in Bahar District, Zabul province in pursuit of a Taliban commander and his element believed responsible for improvised explosive device and armed attacks in the region.

    During the search the joint force received enemy fire and returned fire killing the militants. The force found a suicide vest still attached to one of the militants. Additionally, the force found AK-47 rifles, ammunition belts and communications gear. All items found were destroyed on location.

    In another operation today a joint security force killed several enemy militants in Wardak province after searching compounds known to be used by a Taliban commander and his element. The suspects are believed to be responsible for numerous attacks and for supplying weapons and fighters into the region.

    During the operation in Chak District the joint force killed militants who fired on them and posed hostile threats.

    The joint force continued the search of the compound detaining several suspected militants and discovering a moderate amount of weapons.

    Weapons found included: IED materials, multiple machine guns, AK-47 rifles, fragmentation grenades, ammunition belts and a small cache of ammunition. All items were destroyed on site.

    No Afghan civilians were harmed during the operations.

    ISAF Casualty

    One International Security Assistance Force service member died of wounds sustained in a vehicle accident in western Afghanistan today.
