KABUL, Afghanistan — An International Security Assistance Force service member was killed yesterday, Sept. 13, as a result of a hostile fire incident with insurgents in southern Afghanistan.
"We mourn the loss of a valorous service member who sacrificed his life for the people of Afghanistan. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends," said Brigadier-General Eric Tremblay, ISAF spokesperson.
"In spite of this unfortunate loss, we will not be deterred from accomplishing our mission. The international community is behind this intervention to prevent the insurgents from once again bringing Afghanistan into a state of repression."
It is ISAF policy to not release the nationality of any casualties before the relevant national authority doing so.
The next of kin have been informed.
