386th Air Expeditionary Wing RSS
Story by Staff Sgt. Shaun Emery

Col. Randy Davis assumed command of the 387th Air Expeditionary Group from Col. John Sullivan during a change of command ceremony here July 15.

Col. John Gordy II, 386th Air Expeditionary Wing commander, presided over the ceremony. Gordy commented on the accomplishments of Sullivan during his tenure with the group and importance of the mission of the 387th AEG.

"Today we're saying goodbye to an extraordinary leader," said Gordy. "Under his command 387 soared to unbelievable heights and exceeding all expectations securing and improving the most important APOD our country has the privilege to utilize."

Sullivan was awarded the Bronze Star for his efforts. Among his
accomplishments were numerous infrastructure improvement projects, and security upgrades.

But according to Gordy, those improvements are outweighed only by continuing sound relationships with host nation partners.

"Working together you ensured uninterrupted APOD operations and bolstered base security and increased joint cooperation. You've led extraordinary Airmen to extraordinary accomplishments.

Before rendering his final salute, he thanked the Airmen of the 387th AEG, who had a significant part in his success during his yearlong tour.

"I'm incredibly proud of all of you and your accomplishments over the past year," said Sullivan. "You have been simply amazing."

Upon receiving command of the group, Davis expressed his thanks to senior leadership for giving him an opportunity to command the group.

"I'm glad to be part of the team," he said. "The Airmen here are all professional and they make it happen."

Davis said he plans to keep the 387th AEG operating at a high standard, while continuing to maintain good relations with host nation partners.

"We've been conducting missions for the past 18 years with our partners here," he said. "I look forward to building on that strong partnership.

As the new commander in charge of the 387th AEG, Davis is responsible for the execution of strategic airlift operations in U.S. Central Command's busiest aerial port of debarkation. The group also provides security, defense and maintenance for more than 450 military and civilian personnel assigned to the area.

Davis comes to the 387th AEG from Headquarters Air Force Flight Standards Agency, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Sullivan will move on to a position at the Pentagon.
