MIHAIL KOGALNICEANU, Romania — A local Moline, Ill., native in the U.S. Navy has spent the last six months in Romania helping complete several construction projects as part of a Department of Defense-funded humanitarian civic assistance team.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Aaron J. Wymore, a Navy mechanic, assigned to Naval Mobile
Construction Battalions 11, from Gulfport, Miss., is finishing a tour in Eastern Europe helping local Romanians by keeping equipment up and running that helps with the building and renovation of facilities in and around Mihail Kogalniceanu.
Wymore is taking part of operations related to Joint Task Force-East, a bilateral (U.S.-Romanian and U.S.-Bulgarian) U.S. Army Europe mission where U.S. forces are training side-by-side with their host nation military partners. This HCA mission is part of the operation in these two countries designed to build relations and facilitate regional theater security cooperation.
As part of the JTF-East HCA Team, Wymore completed about 10 projects averaging $15,000 in materials. Typically, Wymore and his JTF-East HCA team members would build or renovate schools, sports fields, medical clinics and other public facilities.
This program, like many others done in locations around the world, is a major tool to build strong relationships with local communities like Mihail Kogalniceanu and provide valuable training for the U.S. forces. The goals are to help build allied partners, foster theater security cooperation, and develop long lasting relations.
Wymore also received an Army Achievement Medal from JTF-East Commander Gary Russ on Aug. 1 for the outstanding job he has done during this deployment.
Wymore will be redeploying to his home station ofGulfport, Miss., August 2009 after six months of duty.
Wymore's parents, Theresa and Burton Wymore live in the Moline area.
