Several insurgents, one ISAF soldier killed fighting in eastern Afghanistan
KABUL, Afghanistan — Several insurgents and one International Security Assistance Force service member were killed during fighting in eastern Afghanistan, July 24.
This afternoon, acting on credible intelligence, ISAF soldiers went to search a qualat believed to be in use by insurgents. Before the soldiers could reach the house they came under fire with enemy rocket propelled grenades and small arms fire.
The ISAF soldiers returned fire and called in close air support, to neutralize the enemy threat, dropping three bombs and killing several insurgents.
The ISAF soldiers continued to the qualat to assess the situation. While at the house, they came under rocket and small arms fire.
It was during this exchange that one ISAF soldier was killed.
"We deeply regret the loss of this brave soldier, and our prayers go out to his family and the Afghan and international forces continuing to fight for security in Afghanistan," said Col. Greg Julian, international forces spokesperson.
There are no reports of any civilian casualties sustained during this incident.
